Youth Orchestra
Kenneth Bean, Conductor
Symphony in C, the region’s only Young Professionals Orchestra, invites students ages 10-18 to learn and perform core orchestral and chamber repertoire with our talented roster of young professional musicians. All sessions will take place on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm. We will meet via Zoom for the fall semester, and in-person rehearsals will resume when the State of New Jersey and our rehearsal venue allow.
Fall 2020 - Virtual Sessions Studying Major Symphonic Works
Repertoire
Symphony in C will present a fall semester of virtual content studying three major works from the symphonic literature:
- Beethoven, Symphony No. 9

- Brahms, Symphony No. 4
Each piece will be studied over the course of three Zoom sessions that will include:
- Orchestra repertoire classes – Kenny Bean will lead score study sessions with the full ensemble, followed by sectional rehearsals
- Instrumental group lessons – Symphony in C teaching artists will work on excerpts of the orchestral pieces with smaller groups of students
- Mock auditions – Each student will have the opportunity to play a short mock audition that features excerpts of the pieces studied this semester

Our virtual sessions for the fall semester will be held on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm on the following dates:
- October 19th and 26th
- November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th
- December 7th and 14th
Spring 2021 - In Person Chamber Ensembles & String Orchestra
Starting in January, we hope to switch over from virtual learning to an in-person chamber music program, with students meeting in small groups at the Haddonfield United Methodist Church. In addition to the chamber ensembles, we would also assemble a small beginner/intermediate level string orchestra, conducted by Kenny Bean. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our first priority, so if we cannot safely rehearse in person, we will continue with online programming in the spring.
