After School Instrumental Music Programs

Symphony in C’s After School Instrumental Music Programs provide free music instruction, field trips, and performance opportunities for students who may not otherwise have access to instrumental music education.

With support from generous funders, Symphony in C currently partners with the Catholic Partnership Schools and the Octavius Catto School in Camden, NJ. Teaching artists work with students weekly throughout the school year, helping them develop their musical skills and confidence.

Many students from these programs also participate in Symphony Summer Camp, where they attend tuition-free.

Symphony Summer Camp

Symphony Summer Camp is a two-week intensive music program at Rutgers University–Camden for band and orchestra musicians ages 10–18.

Led by Symphony in C teaching artists, students participate in:

The camp concludes with a final public performance featuring students performing alongside their teachers.

Need-based financial aid is available. Camden residents and students participating in Symphony in C after-school programs automatically receive full tuition scholarships.

Symphony in C Youth Orchestra

The Symphony in C Youth Orchestra provides young musicians ages 10–18 with the opportunity to rehearse, perform, and grow as members of a full orchestra.

The Youth Orchestra typically meets on Monday evenings during the school year at Haddonfield United Methodist Church. Students participate in full ensemble rehearsals, sectionals, chamber ensembles, and coaching from Symphony in C teaching artists.

The Youth Orchestra performs two concerts each season and also performs side-by-side with the Symphony in C Professional Orchestra.

Classroom Symphony

Classroom Symphony introduces students in grades K–8 to the four instrument families of the orchestra: strings, winds, brass, and percussion.

During each 60-minute educational performance, chamber ensembles featuring Symphony in C young professional musicians demonstrate their instruments, perform a variety of music, and engage students through interactive activities.

At the conclusion of the program, students have the opportunity to see instruments up close and ask musicians questions.

Concerts for Young People

Concerts for Young People provide students and families with the opportunity to experience a full symphony orchestra in an educational and entertaining format.

Each program centers around a theme and may include narration, educational elements, and collaborations with other area artists. These performances introduce audiences to orchestral music while making the concert experience accessible and engaging for all ages.
