Symphony in C’s first commercial recording, The Tortoise and the Hare (& Other Tales) on Bridge Records
This recording is a collection of works for children written by Symphony in C’s Composer-in-Residence, Daniel Dorff. The recording sessions took place at the Walter Gordon Theater at Rutgers University–Camden. This is the first professional orchestral recording produced in Camden, New Jersey, since the golden age of recordings under the RCA label.
The disc features six uplifting children’s tales, narrated by popular Philadelphia television personality Ukee Washington and Broadway star Ann Crumb. Daniel Dorff has created engaging and humorous musical settings of four traditional tales, plus a new story about space travel and a contemporary introduction to the instruments of the orchestra—ideal for introducing young listeners to the charms of classical music. Dorff’s compositions have been widely performed and commissioned by The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Minnesota Orchestra’s Kinder Konzert series, and Symphony in C.
This recording offers children a lively and entertaining introduction to the symphony orchestra and makes a perfect gift.
