Symphony in C Mourns the Loss of Charles W. Heuisler
It is with deep sadness that Symphony in C shares the news of the passing of our colleague and friend, Charles W. Heuisler, on September 10, 2023.
Charles (Chuck) Heuisler graduated from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1963 and from Villanova School of Law in 1966. After a one-year clerkship with a Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, he joined the firm of Archer, Greiner, Hunter & Read, now Archer & Greiner. He was with the firm over 50 years.
In 1974 Morse Archer, the senior partner at the firm, asked if he would be interested in joining the Rotary Club of Camden. It was there that he met Chick Savery. Chick had been active with the Haddonfield Symphony for a number of years, and in 1980 asked if Chuck would be interested in becoming counsel to the Haddonfield Symphony. Chuck accepted and continued in that role until 2019.
Forty years later, the Symphony has grown from a small, local community orchestra to one of three world-renowned training orchestras. It has gone from the small community of Haddonfield, New Jersey to the city of Camden. That was a brave move a lot of people thought would not work. It worked. Symphony in C attracts audiences from both sides of the Delaware River and is indeed, a highly successful training orchestra that can boast having over 100 former members who now perform with symphony orchestras around the world.
Chuck said “I have been privileged to work with many great board members, directors, officers and presidents of the now Symphony in C. It has been a great ride and my only word to all of you out there is, when you are asked to get involved in something in the arts or any other field in which you are interested and that means something to you – do it. It is a great way to meet people with similar interests and become very involved in your local community.”
